This Week in iPad year end episode

Cold Open
Today on This Week in iPad, it's our last show of 2010 and we're counting down the top 5 games of the year, plus we're giving out the 2010 This Week in iPad awards, and live from the set of LonsTV, Lon Harris returns.

LonsTV
Lon has been busy since his time at the show. Or rather he was busy until his car died this week. Now he's doing a web series called LonsTV where he reviews things. He's also partnered with Tubefilter to review web series every Wednesday in a feature he calls "Web Series Wednesdays."

Top 5 iPad games of 2010

#5
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. It's like the console game where you control your car using the tilt control of the iPad. Andrea likes the game a lot and thinks it's well worth it.

#4
Ultimate Spiderman total mayhem HD. Andrea wanted to demo this game on the show but it premiered the same day as Infinity Blade.

#3
Speaking of which, Infinity Blade is our number 3 game of 2010. The graphics are unmatched on anything Andrea has seen so far. Lon thinks it's Saw meets Fruit Ninja.

#2
Plants Vs Zombies HD is our number two game of the year. If you don't know about this game you don't know much about the iPad. Jacob, who has a long track record of disliking causal games bought this game and likes it.

#1
Angry Birds is the number one game of the year.

2010 This Week in iPad Awards

Best "I didn't know my iPad could do that" Feature:
The Remote app now allows AirPlay to sync to multiple devices.

Most Surprisingly Awesome App
Lon thinks there are 3 apps that qualify for this award. Uzu, Friendly Facebook, and Open Table.

Best Nontraditional Use of the iPad
Artist David Kassan uses the iPad to create a portrait with the brushes app. Enjoy.

Lon also found some examples of people using their iPad as turntables to DJ events. The first is from Rana June Sobhany

And the second is from DJ Dave Jam:

D'oh! Did I Really Buy that App???
This "award" goes to Fitness Yoga HD an app Jacob reviewed on Episode 27 and it still haunts him today. The positions are wrong and even though the app is free, it's still not worth the price. Lon has 3: Family Feud, Hulu+, and Tweet Flow.

Dumbest iPad 2 Prediction
Jacob thinks that the rumors Apple would release a new iPad in time for the holiday season was the dumbest prediction of the year. Apple will announce a new iPad in the next few weeks, and release it late Q1 or early Q2. Full year product cycles have always been the way Apple operates, and there's no reason to believe they'd change that strategy.

That's all for this week and this year. See you in 2011!

2011 will be a year of change

I love Las Vegas. Vegas is my home. Always will be. It's amazing to live 5 minutes from a destination that people fly thousands of miles to see. People come here from all over the planet and that's awesome. Unfortunately this is not the same city I moved to in 2007. Back then, this place was the economic beacon for the country. We had the lowest unemployment nationwide, a booming construction market, and a bright future. Now we have 15% unemployment, and there's a general feeling here the outlook will not turn around anytime soon. Unfortunately I have to move on. For the last 16 months, I've been looking for opportunity here and the fact is I'm not sure I'll find it any time soon. The natural question then is where to now? The answer isn't obvious. I could go east to Boston or New York. I could go to Seattle or Silicon Valley. I could even go to Austin. But all these options have flaws I can't overcome. Most are simply too far away but more importantly most don't have the entrepreneurial community I want. The balance of proximity, and entrepreneurial spirit comes in an unlikely place. Los Angeles. Perhaps I've been watching too much This Week in Startups but I really feel like that's the place to be. My lease is up in January and frankly I can't wait to get out of here. Between the onslaught of roaches and the fact it's an oven 7 months out of the year this apartment is not worth the low rent I pay. There are sacrifices I'll have to make but so be it. Any price is worth it in the long run. I can suffer the pain of work or I can suffer the pain of disappointment. A high price but I pay it gladly. 2011 will be a good year. Period. Stay tuned. Should be fun.

iPad game of the week!
This week's iPad game of the week isn't technically an iPad specific game. But the gameplay more than makes up for the graphics when the game is expanded to fit the iPad screen. The game is Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3" the classic arcade game. Andrea likes it.

News

OS X App store
According to the BBC, the Mac app store, featured in the pre-release event in the October 20 keynote will go live in January.

Apple Gifts

iPad Camera Connection Kit
First up is the iPad Camera Connection Kit. This allows you to upload pictures and movies directly from your camera or SD card.

iPad Case
Next, Apple makes a case for the iPad that Jacob has used since episode 1. Although it's not much to look at, the case is very durable and allows users to type on their iPad screen much easier with an adjustable back. A possible downside is that the iPad is not easily removed from the case so if you need to change out your iPad cases frequently, this might not be for you. Overall, it works very well, and the texture of the case makes it very easy to hold.

Keyboard
The iPad is a wonderful device but if you need to type for extended periods of time, it can be a bit rough. With that in mind, Apple paired the iPad with their Wireless Keyboard. This keyboard is BlueTooth enables and works with any compatible computer system.

iPad Dock
The iPad dock is a simply way to stand your iPad and charge it for extended periods of time when playing games like Cut the Rope and the like. The only downside to it is that for now, the dock only works in portrait mode. At least until iPad2 comes out.

Headphones
Finally, when you get an iPad you'll notice a few things about it. The beautiful display, the great user experience, and the lame external speaker. So why not get a set of headphones"? The iPad comes with one but if you're like most people you lose them, or more likely you have them connected to your computer and forget them.

Planet of the Apps

Fire HD
First up, Jacob show off Fire HD an app that's gives users their very own yule log. You can choose between the default Christmas music, or use your own music library. Jacob recommends the app out of nostalgia.

Carol Lyrics
Next, Andrea reviews Carol Lyrics, an app that lets you sing along with your favorite Christmas carols. Andrea wanted to like this app but couldn't because the animation is too pixelated.

Super Mega Worm VS Santa
Jacob's next app is Super Mega Worm VS Santa an app where you play a worm and you kill elves. It's grainy and simple but for $0.99 it's a perfect "cheap" app.

Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift
Andrea mentioned Cut the rope earlier and here's why. Chillingo, the creative forces behind the smash hit game have released a special holiday edition.

Talking Santa HD
Jacob's final app this week is creepy. Talking Santa takes what you say and turns it into Santa's voice. Complete with creepy animated Santa. Jacob says steer clear of this app. Ironically, Santa also says steer clear.

Winner: Super Mega Worm.

Thank you again to Storm On Demand.
We're taking next week off for Christmas but we'll be back next week for our best of show. See you then!

This Week in iPad Episode 35

Cold Open
Today on This Week in iPad, Andrea gives us a first glimpse of Infinity Blade, plus we've got 5 great gifts for the iPad, and it's all about holiday apps on Planet of the Apps.

Ad
The reason you watch This Week in iPad, as well as all of our wonderful shows here at This Week in is because of the support of Storm on Demand. For all your cloud computing needs, please visit them at StormOnDemand.com.

Game of the Week!
The game of the week this week comes from Epic Games, home of such flagship titles as Gears of War. It's a swordplay RPG style game called Infinity Blade. The gameplay is a bit repetitive, but the graphics are unlike anything Andrea has seen on the iPad. Jacob thinks the app may have been sanitized to fit better in the app store.

News
Refurbished iPads are now up to $100 off.
According to cnet, the Apple store recently started selling refurbished iPads at a discount. That number has quickly gone up and now, you can get your very own iPad for as little as $429. The site seems to think this indicates a new model will soon be announced.

iTunes accounts randomly getting a free rental
Gizmodo is reporting that random iTunes accounts are receiving redemption codes for free movie rentals.

5 Great Gifts for the iPad

BookBook
The first item is the BookBook, an iPad case that looks like a classic hardcover book.

JAMBOX
Next is the JAMBOX from Jawbone. Here's a video showing it in action.

Jacob likes it, but he wonders why they'd use BlueTooth technology after AirPlay was announced. If you have a iPhone it can take calls so that might be a useful feature for you.

HyperMac
Next up, is the HyperMac stand and charger. It'll extend your battery life significantly and is rechargeable up to 1000 times. The issue Jacob has with it is that it's trying to make the iPad into something it is not. The portability of the iPad is a key feature and if you need to tie it to a charger, it defeats the purpose. Bottom line: it will give you a longer battery life, but don't buy this for someone who has an iPad unless they've complained about the battery.

AirPort Express
Unfortunately for Jacob, there aren't any AirPlay enabled speakers coming out until after the holiday season. So why not make the speakers you already own AirPlay ready? The AirPort Express has been out for a while but now it supports airplay and acts as a base station routing information from your iPad to your speakers.

Maclocks
Finally, we have the Maclocks iPad security case and lock a clear case that attaches to a steel cable and lock.

Planet of the Apps
This week we take a look at holiday themed apps.

Angry Birds Seasons
The first app this week is Angry Birds Seasons an update of the Halloween game. The app features 25 new puzzles each released once a day.

[aside] Cookie Doodle, an app Jacob reviewed a few weeks back, has a holiday update as well.[/aside]

Christmas Carol
Jacob's first app this week is Christmas Carol an adaptation of the classic story by Charles Dickens. It's a great way to tell the story, unfortunately Jacob has ADD so he became annoyed by the amount of time it takes to go through it. If you like this style of app it's a great way to revisit a classic holiday tale. If you're like Jacob, it might be worth avoiding.

Build a card
Andrea's next app this week is Build-a-card, an app that allows users to create and send e-cards. You can customize and send via email, twitter, or facebook. And it's only $0.99.

VirtualMenorah and Christmas Tree
Jacob reviews two apps. First up, VirtualMenorah an app that simulates the traditional menorah that marks the 8 days of Hanukkah. Jacob is not a fan of this app. Next up is Christmas Tree HD an app that lets you decorate a Christmas tree and save the image to your photos. Jacob doesn't like either app but was stunned that once you set which day you're on in the Virtual Menorah(it can't auto-detect) you can't change it. He thinks you should steer clear of both.

Verdict: If you haven't tried any of the previous apps from PadWorx, it may be worth your time to check the Christmas Carol app out if only to see a great use of the iPad and to see where tablet computing is headed in general. Also, there are several e-card apps out there, and few have the features or clean interface that Build a Card has.

News

Planet of the Apps
Music apps
With the launch of iOS 4.2, we wanted to revisit this category since music apps are much better when they can run in the background.

Album Vista
Andrea's first app this week is Album Vista a unique app that will search your song library and find relevant videos from YouTube. It's interesting because they're not always music performances so there's a discovery aspect that Andrea likes.

Pandora
Jacob's first app is Pandora an app that was featured during the announcement of iOS 4. The reason Jacob decided to feature it this week is the fact that Pandora supports AirPlay.

Songatron
Next, Andrea reviews Songatron an app that is the MadLibs of music.

djay
Next, Jacob looks at djay an app that turns your iPad into a DJ table. It's neat but Jacob doesn't think you can get $20 of value from it. However he is not a professional DJ. If you are a professional DJ, get this app and let us know what you think about it. We'll send you a $25 iTunes gift card for your troubles.

This week, Andrea looks at Rage HD from iD, the makers of such classic titles as DOOM, and QUAKE. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is fun, although you can't choose where the character is. That said, at $1.99 the game is well worth it.

365 days

At 8:15 pm mountain standard time one year ago today, I left Colorado to return to Las Vegas. I'd like to recap the events thus far that have taken place since then. First, the temperature when I left Colorado was around 10°-15°F, so cold my transmission wouldn't shift correctly for nearly two full hours. I make the long(±16 hours) and I make it to fabulous Las Vegas. I make contact with my friend out here and I start my new job. It's calling people again but that's ok. I can't pick and choose at this point so I'll take what I can get. That night, I sleep like I haven't slept in a long while. Over the next few weeks, I get used to my new routine. I get up each day, I drive the 17 miles to work, I call people, I go "home." I repeat the same the next day. Thanksgiving and Christmas pass without much fanfare. Then comes the new year. 2010. Wow. The "oughts" are over. I begin with being forced rather abruptly to move. My friends neighbors had been keeping tabs on my comings and goings and they noticed that I seemed to stay the night a lot. And since I wasn't on the lease, that was a problem. But it was ok. My job had worked fairly well, so I had enough(barely) to move in to a 400ft^2 apartment. Where I still am. Then the drama started. Shortly after I moved, my friend decided he didn't like where he worked (we worked together) so he quit. And went to a new office selling grant writing services. After several weeks of persuasion, I went as well. And what a glorious mistake that was. It was contractor work so if I didn't make sales, I didn't make money. At all. I made a sale my second week and then never again. It didn't take long to realize this was unsustainable. So I left. And went back to my old job. Meanwhile, I'd completely drained my savings and defaulted on my credit card so I needed money bad. I went, hat in hand to my old job. And amazingly, they took me back. But my heart simply wasn't in it. So I went through the motions. And I didn't make many sales. Then it happened. I was placed on the bubble--meaning that if I didn't make a sale, I was done. And sure enough, no sales. On July 3, for the first time in 10 years I was fired. It was ok though. I'd find something. Not in sales, but something. I never wanted to make another sales call as long as I lived. Unfortunately I still had bills so I started receiving money from my parents each month. Not a lot, but my bills were more or less covered. All summer I looked. For anything that wasn't a sales job, but paid well enough to be worth my time. Nothing. Turns out, I'd been fired in the worst employment market in history in Nevada. I'd held out hope for one job above all others. A specialist at the Apple Store. I'd applied the week I was placed on the bubble and I'd been checking in fairly often since. On September 21, a full 3 months later, I received an email. I was invited to a "Hiring Seminar" held by Apple. And I NAILED it! I knew more about the products, I guided to more computer than the customer would need, and I went for the upsell. Every chance I got, I went for the upsell. Because I knew that's what they were looking for. Know the products and present them well, help the customer find a product that fits their needs, and maximize the profit opportunity from them. Less than 3 hours later, I got the follow up call. I'd been wanting this for a long time. And here it was. The nice young lady scheduled me to come in for a panel interview. I think I did well, but it was much harder to stand out this time. They asked me to fill out the paperwork for a background check and as soon as it came back, they'd contact me. Well, they contacted me. "We've decided to go with more 'qualified' candidates." This taught me a very important lesson. For whatever reason, I don't qualify for a job that requires a background check. (My dreams of a good paying job with Comcast were dashed at the same point.) So I needed a job that wouldn't require one. Like a sales job. So I went back. And here I am. Physically the only difference between me today, and when I left, is about 6" more hair, and about 10 pounds more. But I'm a completely different person. In January, I saw the iPad and my life was changed forever. When Phil Schiller demonstrated the iWork suite of apps on the iPad I had an epiphany. This was a completely new way to interact with computers. And I wanted to develop apps for the users of this new platform. I had no experience at all, but I didn't care. I want to develop software. For iOS. The only thing that has thus far prevented me is the same as always. I don't have money. But for the first time ever, I have a crystal clear vision of what I want to do. When I quit my old job, I had no idea what I was going to do. Something online but beyond that, I had no vision. I was using a sniper rifle with a coke bottle for a sight. Now I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm currently learning Python to tie together several open source programs to generate income 24/7. It's going to be amazing. And more importantly, it'll allow me to focus full time on my app ideas. It's going to be a fun few months. My friend received a text yesterday. The people who ran the old office want him to run a new floor. What an amazing year gone by. There have been a few ups, and a lot of crushing downs, but overall I'm better off now than when I arrived. And I'm still goin' up! :) $$ G'nite.

Jacob's first app is Martha Stewart Makes Cookies The app lauches with the worlds worst loadscreen but redeems itself by the recipes it features. If you like cookies well enough to but this app you'll like it. Otherwise, there's always Google.

Big Fork Little Fork
Andrea's next app is Big Fork Little Fork. This app comes from Kraft foods. It helps parents choose what foods are good, and what foods aren't.

Grocery iQ
Jacob's next app is Grocery iQ, a grocery list on steroids. Jacob thinks it might have a touch of feature creep, but that may be the Scotch talking.

New Tablets

HP Slate 500, is back from the dead. After HP purchased Palm, there was speculation that all tablets from the computer maker would run webOS but this tablet runs Windows 7. For now, anyway. The HP Slate 500 will sell for $799

ViewSonic 7 and 10
Another option is the ViewSonic. The neat feature of this tablet is you can dual boot, meaning it will run either Windows7 or Android 2.1.

Walgreens tablet
Walgreens is offering a $99 tablet from GPS maker Maylong. Jacob thinks it might be a case of "you get what you pay for" but is nonetheless very curious to see what this tablet offers in terms of user experience.

[Hint]Jacob is not Van Gogh and is not Tom Sawyer. The has he's wearing isn't supposed to be straw.[/Hint]

Nook
Barnes and Noble's Nook launched originally as an e-ink reader. It's now sporting a full color display, and will soon have a fully curated app store. At $250, it's more expensive than a Kindle, but the full color screen should make for a great user experience. That said, Jacob has said that he's seen a video of people using it and it seems a bit slow.

HTML5 usage doubles
According to TUAW, the usage of HTML5 for web content has doubled in the last 5 months. A big reason why is that iOS devices, like the iPad don't support Flash so website creators have been forced to re-encode much of their content to make it viewable on these devices.

[Sidenote] Andrea is now using an iPad case from ZooGue Thanks to ZooGue for their support. [/Sidenote]

AppStation for Pilots
The AppStation allows pilots and ship captains to access information on their iPad while at the controls, the case features straps to secure the iPad without the need to balance on your leg. It's neat, but Andrea can't figure out why a pilot needs an iPad in flight.

Carve it!
Jacob's first app is Carve it! a do it yourself Jack-o-lantern app.

WHAC-A-MOLE
Next, Andrea reviews WHAC-A-MOLE a Halloween mash up of the classic carnival game.

Zombie Wonderland
Next up, Jacob reviews Zombie Wonderland. The controls are iPad specific and the game is fairly simple. Kill as many zombies as possible. And it's only $0.99.

Scene it? Horror
Andrea's final app this week is Scene it? Horror. The scene it franchise takes on horror movies. Plus the app offers the "scream machine." If you're ever in need of a violent scream.

SI
Jacob reviews the Sports Illustrated app. According to Jacob, the app is basically a port of the magazine, so if you're looking to go green, this can be a good way to do it but it's not mindblowing the way the MLB app is.

Football Rules
Andrea reviews Football Rules. You can look at NCAA and NFL rules and you can see what the referee's hand signals mean. Jacob doesn't see why people can't google this information, but it's free so why not?

SportsTap and Scorecenter XL

Verizon Plans to Sell iPad
Verizon plans to sell the iPad in it's stores. According to Mashable will begin to sell the iPad on October 28. For now, Verizon will only be selling the WiFi version although they do offer a MiFi bundled with the iPad for wireless data. Also, this does give recent rumors about the long awaited Verizon iPhone some credibility.

Wal-Mart is also Selling the iPad!
Wal-Mart, the worlds largest retailer will start selling the iPad as early as this Friday. According to Venture Beat, the iPad will be sold in all 6 varieties and will be in as many as 2300 stores by November. Unfortunately for now the store, which is famous for it's heavy price cutting will not offer the iPad for any significant discount.

Will Pricing Limit the Galaxy Tablet's Success?
According to PCWorld, the highly anticipated Galaxy Tab will come to Sprint and T-Mobile at a subsidized price of $399 with a 2 year contract.

iPad Voted Gadget of the Year
The iPad recently dominated the prestigious T-3 awards in the UK. The iPad won the top 5 awards including Gadget and Innovation of the year. The awards are voted on by 750,000 people. Jacobs take: ad populum is not a fallacy to fall into.

App hall of Fame
The App Hall of Fame has inducted it's first 12 apps. They include Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, and Jacobs's favorite app, Instapaper

iPad Video of the Week!
Robotic Drummers

The 18 drums and 36 arms are controlled via wireless connection by an iPad!

Planet of the Apps
Amazon Mobile
Andrea's first app this week is Amazon Mobile. She likes it.

eBay
Jacob tries the eBay app. According to the CEO, the iPad is the best buying experience he's ever seen. According to Jacob the organization and elegance of this app make him agree.

ShopShop
Next, Andrea reviews ShopShop an app designed to help you organize your shopping list. Most people have a problem with going to a store for one item and walking out with 10. This app helps you stay on track.

Flash Sales Apps
Jacob reviews two flash sales apps, LivingSocial and Gilt. Jacob thinks that the Gilt app, although pretty doesn't really add anything to the experience as compared to the website. The iPhone app has push notification so it's good for catching Gilt sales on the go but unless you have a data connection, the iPad won't. LivingSocial also focuses on flash sales but with a focus on local deals. Overall, they aren't that much different than the web versions, but they're free so why not try them.
The best: Andrea and Jacob both agree that the eBay app is a great experience and showcases the iPad very well.
[Sidenote]This weeks shopping app theme was suggested by Mike Smith, a viewer. Thanks Mike! And if you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to email either Andrea or Jacob[/Sidenote]

For this weeks game of the week, Andrea reviews Fiona’s Flowers. It's a time management game similar to Farmville but much more in depth. The features include filling customer orders for custom flowers, the ability to earn badges for accomplishment, and nearly infinite game expansion. Jacobs take: It's a little "girly" though that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Chrome running on iPad

A well known Chrome developer called Hexxeh has successfully ported Google Chrome to an iPad.

Apple could sell 11 million iPads this year
According to Fox, analysts are predicting that Apple will sell 11 million iPads this year on strong holiday season demand.

7 Inch iPad will have 128GB of memory?
Reports from suppliers indicate that the next generation of the iPad will have a 7 inch retina display, 128GB of storage, and will feature USB compatibility. Jacob's take: Show me.

Planet of the Apps
Today, Jacob and Andrea review Health and wellness apps.

Fitness Yoga HD
Jacob's first app this week is continuing the tradition that Lon started of finding an app that is very popular with a bad rating. Fitness Yoga HD is a perfect example of this. The app is supposed to show how to do various positions in yoga, but they didn't seem to check that the positions they show are the same as those they name. Huge waste of time, and possibly dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

Diet and Fitness Tracker
Andrea reviews the Diet and Fitness Tracker app from SparkPeople. It allows you to track your calories and the number burned while you exercise. Also it's free.

Is That Gluten Free?
Jacob's last app this week allows users to track if their foods contain gluten or other processed foods. Is That Gluten Free also is a great app for people with Celiac Disease to help them avoid gluten. Jacob's take: If you have an allergy, or if you need a lot of info, this can be a good resource but if you're just out and about, Google is probably decent enough for you.

WebMD
Andrea reviews the WebMD app for iPad. It's a great touch interface for the website and it offers great info. Also, it's free. Unfortunately the search functionality didn't seem to work. Strangely missing from the app: The "Does this look infected?" picure reader. Oh well. Maybe when iPad 2 comes out next year.

Today is Saturday

For the last 4 months I've been unemployed. The cause of this is a mix of cause and circumstance. First and foremost, the economy in Nevada is facing an unemployment rate exceeding 14%. So even for those people who desperately want a job, there simply aren't that many to go around. Secondly, I've been waiting for the job I really want. I really want to work at the Apple store. Not because it's a great paying job, but because it's the kind of job I could believe in. Selling coaching paid the bills, but I was never passionate about it. I am very, VERY passionate about Apple technology. Finally, I want to be my own boss. The problems with that idea are twofold. First, I'm not the only one. In this economy there's scores of people more qualified than I am trying to get the same work. I am stuck in the classic catch-22. Without experience no one will hire me but the only way I'll get experience is if someone hires me. The hiring process at Apple has been insane. Thus far, I've had 3 different interviews. The first was in the store, I think I nailed that one because I got the second, group interview. I did two things the rest of my group didn't. First, during the role-play I offered up sells, and second I knew the products well enough to pitch them without looking at the noted they'd given us to use. So I made it to the third interview. A panel style where I didn't overly stand out, but I did well enough IMHO. Then came the background check. For those who have not been following my story, earlier in the year I decided that the corporate polices of Capitol One were abusive enough such that I chose not to pay them. This has thus far knocked off over 100 points to my FICO score, and affected my credit to the point I literally can't finance a toaster at Best Buy. I'm worried that all my effort the past several months will have been for naught. I'd imagine a position handling money requires decent if not good credit on the part of the applicant. This snafu never crossed my mind until they asked for my info. According to the nice young lady at the panel, we'd hear from them one way of the other by Friday but no later than Monday. I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm now operating under the assumption that my effort to get the job was in vain. So what's next? I've been living off my parent's for the last 4 months and frankly, I'm sick of it. Starting Monday, I'm taking any job I can get. Including sales. But wait you say, didn't you say you'd never again be in sales for the rest of your life, consequences be damned? Indeed I did. And that remains my stance. I hate, hate, HATE sales. But I must accept reality. And the reality is that the sales game is unique. I've literally seen people hired less than a week out of prison, people with warrants, probation, and all sorts of marks against them make good, and even great money. That's all I care about right now. If I could, I'd be running my own company, setting my own hours and producing a great product people would embrace. But the fact is, I'm broke. I'm mooching off my parents, and I'm sick and tired of waiting. I will make more in a good week in sales than I will in a month waiting tables, or flipping burgers. So here's the plan. I'm going to wait for Apple until Wednesday. If I haven't heard from them by then, I'll assume they've rejected me. I'm going to start looking to every sales floor(probably telemarketing but you never know) in town for opportunities. Therein lies another unique trait of sales floors. The cost to them to hire someone is so minor, that they'll take a chance on almost anyone. That's my "in." I'm a proven salesman and all I need is a chance. Once I'm hired, I'll be working on 3 different fronts. First, I'll be going in every day when the doors open. And staying until they close. I'm not hungry. I'm STARVING!!! Secondly, my iPhone will be redirecting calls to my prepaid phone. My prepaid phone has no features at all besides calling and texting. And both are inordinately expensive. That's exactly what I want. That'll help me keep focused. Finally I will have my living expenses slashed. No lunch, very small breakfast, and small dinner. I estimate that I have almost 300 days of calories stored on my person if I cut my daily intake 1000 calories. It'll suck but the number 1 thing I'm wasting money on day in and day out is food. I have one goal for the next 6 months. Pay off ALL my debts, and save money. The number to remember is $1,200. That's the cost of a new(I want the warrantee) MacBook and the fees to register for the iOS developer program. In the interim I'm going to use my laptop to learn website programming languages. Especially php, java, perl, and ruby on rails. This will come in to play when I begin to freelancing to break the chain I'll have to my job. Also, the more I know about programming before I dive into iOS the better. By summer next year I want to have freed myself from the burden of working for someone else forever. I'm going to miss my birthday deadline but so be it. Life starts when you decide to start it. I was rejected by my old job. I was rejected by my dream job. The next time I leave the employment of a company, it'll be because my business has begun. So it was written, so it shall be done. Because one way or another, I'm goin' up! :) $$

G'nite.
